My private teaching method revolves around the student as an individual person, in addition to that of a growing violinist. As a teacher, it becomes my job to learn how each one of my students work most efficiently and then help prepare them in that particular style, creating a positive educational environment. I have never subscribed to a “one size fits all” approach, and it is my strong belief that treating each student as the unique person that they are has great benefits in the long-term, and not just musically speaking.
Students are greatly encouraged to ask questions immediately in the weekly lesson if something is unclear in their technique, and we will then work together through the individual issues until they are resolved. I generally mirror the pace set by each of my students in terms of how lessons are constructed and this has proven an effective method over many years of teaching.
In addition, my career as an orchestral violinist provides plenty of real-time, real-world experience, which I am able to share each week in my violin studios. Students can expect information ranging from the rules of orchestral and small ensemble etiquette practices, discussions of “how and why” things are executed in certain ways, unexpected (sometimes funny) anecdotes as well as first and second violin part sight-reading which will vary from month to month in each concert season.
Consider lessons with me if you are new to violin and would like a solid foundation as a first-time student, if you are currently (or considering) taking part in school orchestra with challenging music, upgrading your technique, working towards auditions (at either the high school or college level) or just looking for weekly practice suggestions. All of this and more can be delivered each week, in a tailor-made, structured format.
