I chose Margaret FioRito as a violin soloist for the premier of my piece "The Enchanted Musicians,” with the Northbrook Symphony on September 23, 2017. Margaret plays with beauty and elegance.  The Aegean Sounds are a Greek music band in Albuquerque, NM. Margaret FioRito was my violin teacher from 2004-2010 in Albuquerque, NM. Her astounding grasp of music, combined with an innate love for teaching and a warm, welcoming studio, created the perfect learning environment for me. Not only did she establish sound principles of music theory and technique, Margaret encouraged lifelong ethics and values. I learned perseverance, hard work, and determination under her steady guidance. She pushed me to shoot for the stars and helped me tackle orchestra auditions, difficult piano/violin duets with my sister, and even fiddling in a western band. Even though it has been eight years since I was under her tutelage, Margaret’s influence still impacts me today, whether it is seeking perfection in my job or raising my two girls. She is a magnificent teacher and friend.

Although I was very young when I began to play the violin, I can still remember the lessons that I had with Margaret. She was exceptionally friendly and engaging, giving me a great start to the knowledge of the instrument. Throughout the years I have yet to find a teacher that was as talented and encouraging as she is. Margaret was very understanding when it came to setting up a time to meet for lessons since I was spending a lot of my time preparing college applications. She reinforced techniques and was very thorough in teaching the foundations of violin performance. I also enjoyed being able to pick out a few simple fun songs throughout our lessons to learn to play which definitely kept the lessons very interesting! When it came time to decide on college choices, she was helpful outside of my lessons as well.
